So, where to even begin!
For those of you that live here or have visited you will know how dynamic and busy Hong Kong is, there is literally something happening on every corner every minute of the day. We are very lucky in that we have friends here so my experience so far has been from a local point of view, which is always special when you are new to a city.
Like my home town, I always love to find the laneways, the hidden shops, the best places to eat locally and so far we've had relative success. I've eaten the best mushrooms I think I've ever had in my life and of course I have found some amazing shops so expect my next post to be all about my shopping treasures.
Here are just a few things that have caught my eye so far.....
These mini vending machines are at most stations, although I have seen entire shops devoted to them. You can get toys, magnets, lip gloss, ornaments so I went a little crazy with the Hello Kitty one.I thought when I got here that embellished nails were a local thing because you see these fake nails in every beauty shop around. I promptly bought myself some but realised after about a day that not that many girls wear them. None the less, they are pretty and shiny so I'm pleased!
Times Square in Causeway Bay is where I have done some of my best shopping so far. I unfortunately don't have any pictures of it by night, but as everything is open until about 11pm here the streets are flooded with people in the evenings after work and the population in this photo would probably treble.
Beautiful enamel bracelets that are sold at real touristy shops believe it or not! I have seen these in Australia but at much inflated prices, I'm planning on wearing them when I get home so that they are in a different context and I don't look like a tragic tourist to all the locals here!
So far I have bought 20. Too much?

Those bracelets are gorgeous - the more the merrier in my opinion.
It certainly looks like you are enjoying yourself!

Wow it seems like you are having a blast. Don't worry about not commenting on blogs, enjoy your trip...I never comment on blogs and I'm not going anywhere so don't stress. You look amazing, I love the bangles. Oh and those mini toy vending machines are everywhere in Japan too.

Oh those bracelets are lovely! I've not had the pleasure to visit Hong Kong, but it is definitely on my life's "To Do" list. Looks like you are having a ball!!

Wow, 20 really? That's quite a stack o' bangles! Sounds like you are having a loverly time!
I'm a but jealous - I also want to go to a trip somewhere warm, strollaround and eat good stuff and do some nice shopping...
(I don't think 20 bracelest are too much :)
I love Hong Kong, it's such an amazing city, I'm so glad that you're having fun. Great purchases, those bangles are fab.
It's great to see you in Hong Kong, I love your bracelets and I'm eager to see what you find during your fashion trip. Enjoy and cheers!
20? Bah! I think you should buy at least another 50 and offer them to the devoted readers of Lady Melbourne (for a small fee, of course!)
You can put me down for 5 please!
Wonderful photos! You're looking so elegant as per usual and I love your bracelets :)
I think TOO MANY SHOES is onto something. Bring home bucketloads of them. Sounds liek you're having a wow of a time.
How exciting, it looks like such a busy, busting place. The vending machines sound amazing! Too many bracelets?! Never! :)
omg, thats exactly where i stayed when i visited HK. unfortunately i was alone and didnt have any idea where anything was! you look like your enjoying yourself muchly:) have fun!
Love the bangles!
Ah, you're making me feel slightly homesick!
Hong Kong has a great selection of food, but if you're looking for good pizza/pasta/steak it'll be difficult.
Japanese food is cheap and amazing, and if you don't mind the smell, 'smelly tofu' is delicious!
xx
20 is not at all to much! lulki xxx
Gosh! Those enamel bangles. I love the red, white and black colour combo you chose for that photo. I remember travelling round SE Asia and being roped into buying an armful of friendship bracelets. Not tragic tourist at all! Supporting the local economy is the better term, I think ;)
I can't believe the bangles are 'touristy' I think they look great!
And it's only 'too much' when you hit triple digits haha...and even then there's room for negotiation!
No number is high enough if it's something you love.
I was about to comment that that photo of Times Square reminded me of Times Square, when I read that it was Times Square?
How many times can a girl write Times Square in one comment? By my count: 4
Could you not *cough* pop a couple of those darling bangles on your Etsy? Or do they frown on such things?
you can never have enough of those bracelets. hong kong looks like so much fun!
