Lady Melbourne's Shopping Odyssey

Shortly I shall be packing up the manor, and hustling myself, the maids and his Lordship on a tour of the continent and Hong Kong. There will be much sightseeing done but you don’t come here every day to see me standing in front of monuments, so for the purposes of the blog, I’m treating it like a shopping odyssey instead.

First stop is Hong Kong and I am thrilled and excited that I get to explore what I have been told is a dynamic, bustling city.
I’ve noted down all the markets I need to visit, and am holding off all beauty product purchases duty free because I’m told Sasa is like a beauty addicts Mecca.I can’t seem to find much on second hand shopping in Hong Kong, so if anyone has any suggestions please send them my way.

Then it’s onto London and Paris with a few other cities thrown in.
I found this wonderful link on The Cherry Blossom Girl’s page for a visitor’s guide to Paris, which made me think that I should probably do one for Melbourne. I have been to Paris a few times but always love to find new, hidden gems so if you are willing to share your shopping secrets it will be between you, me and the blog.

London always lift’s my skirt to borrow a phrase from my despotic friend Imelda, and it’s there that I plan on making most of my vintage clothing purchases. If there is anywhere you believe LM should see whilst on her journeys please feel free to write to me or leave a comment. It will be business as usual until and while I am away, I couldn’t leave you all without your daily dose of couch lounging action now could I?

you DEFINITELY need to go to brick lane, they have loads of vintage shops, Beyond Retro being the best as it is a massive warehouse and the dresses are about £18 each!!

How exciting, have fun!

I used to love visiting Steinberg & Tolkien, 193 King's Road, Chelsea. It was top-notch vintage dating back to the 1910s... However this was more than 10 years ago, but it truly was amazing. Driver, (or tube) to Sloane square, on the double!

Hello from Hong Kong! I used to live in Melbourne and just came back to HK for good.

The Vintage atmosphere here is not as strong and free as in Melbourne. People here look at people with stares when they think the person does not fit in the "norm".

Sasa is good and cheaper than duty free but they don't stock everything from the catalog and some branches doesn't even have the brand you are looking for. I suggest you stick with the large Sasa branches.

Have fun in HK!

P.S. I still prefer shopping in Melbourne

This is an old thread, but it might give you some ideas to research further:

Also on The Great Outdoors a few months back a place called Horizons Plaza was mentioned for outlet designer shopping in HK.

You should definitely do a secret guide to Melbourne. I would definitely read it myself. I love exploring hidden laneways too, and I think it'll be great if people knew where to go!
