I met some incredible bloggers in Singapore, and it really and truly made me realise how behind we are in terms of blogging in Australia.

Nuff Nang had bloggers from Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and Australia there to network, share, shop and socialise for a couple of days and I was just blown away that so many people I met blogged full time as a job.

Xia Xue is not only a blogger but a minor celebrity throughout Asia, and even though I had never heard of her I learnt fairly quickly that her influence was wide reaching and her status as a full time blogger was huge.

Blogging and new media is something that I am passionate about as you know, so I hope that through connecting with bloggers from other countries we might be able to change the landscape of how it is perceived here in Oz.

What do you think?

Are you really a freelance journalist? I find that a bit hard to believe with all the grammatical errors in your posts.

I'm not really a fan of xiaxue.. sure she's well known in Singapore but for her shallowness!! I can't believe I"ve never been to Haji Lane! Definitely adding this to my to-see-list.

Blogging's really taking off, everyone's a 'blogger' but most are just 'ploggers' (picture bloggers).

You're a bit of a celebrity, if I saw you I'd probably do a minor scream, we don't want another repeat of "OMG MIRANDA OTTO I LOVE YOU!" that's a story for another day.

I don't thinks it right to say that Australia is behind in the blogging world... Just because we arent commercialising or or profiting from it as often?

I think there are good bloggers everywhere.. Xiaxue is well liked and also detested by people.. depends alot on individual.. personally i like wat she post. not fakes. :)

I'm a blogging luddite, if that makes sense. I hate the commercialism I'm starting to see, and for me it's spoiling your blog. For me, and my blog, it's about the words, and personal recording. Your blog I love to look at for the fashion and because you are so pretty.

Disappointing to see such a turn towards advertising, marketing and heavy-handed commercialisation.

I agree with the stirrer above. You should proofread more, or get someone else to do it for you if you are promoting yourself as a professional writer.

It was such a pleasure to meet you and Lois Lane. Thanks so much for the helping hand with the little fella as well. Hope you managed to fix the bracelet!

i find xia xue fascinating!
the best thing about her is you can tell she doesn't herself seriously at all.

i wish i could meet her in person
she'd be my best friend in a minute.

Hi Phoebe! Congrats on your win.

I'm a blogger originally from Malaysia but now living in Perth. Been blogging on and off for about 8-9 years now. I definitely agree that Australia has not yet seen the power of blogging as a profession yet. In fact, a lot of my friends and colleagues in Perth have no idea what a blog is and I have to launch into an explanation of it. So definitely we'll see blogs exploding here in Oz :)

Congratulations LM - a well deserved accolade IMHO.

I find the debate regarding the commercialism of blogging here very interesting.

Perhaps some readers are concerned that accepting advertising on one's blogg means that the writer's objectivity is somewhat compromised?

On the other hand, I believe in not treating one's audience like morons - it becomes patently obvious when a blogger's opinion has been bought.

As long as a blogger is upfront with their audience, I see absolutely no problem with it.

The "selling out" accusation is a one dimensional argument, but I digress...

Here's to Australian bloggers going from strength to strength.

I agree.

That said, I think Nuffnang Australia is rather inactive tho. Would be awesome if there is more competitions, nuffnang outings, etc.

Hm....

Hey Phoebes,

It was a pleasure meeting you and Lois Lane in Singapore. I was also pleasantly surprised by how down-to-earth you are and easy to converse with.

I think non-bloggers or less-active bloggers fail to realise how much time is involved in developing a good blog. It takes time, money, patience and a lot of sacrifice. I have absolutely no problem monetizing my site to help cover all the expenses that make my blog what it is.

Keep up the great work and look forward to catching up again.

Blessings,
Arn aka Mr.Gadget
