Dear Lady Melbourne: 1984 called, it wants its shoulder pads back

Right so you know that I'm into D.I.Y don't you? And I am totally into this embellished shoulder trend at the moment, but I think it is just that: a trend. Come 6 months and I will no doubt be seeing the chain store knock off's on the racks at Savers.

So with that in mind, I created my own that I have pinned to my Tina Kalivas tux jacket. This is possibly the EASIEST D.I.Y project I have ever attempted and if it's something you have been considering then I'd urge you to try it. You basically just decorate shoulder pads to your liking. That's it.

I went a little overboard, but as it's fashion week next week I thought why the hell not make something to wear that's a little bit over the top.

I love the combination of pearls and studs, so awesome!

Also, your eye make up is brilliant, you should do a tutorial. Pretty please?

Hot, hot hot! I agree, I would love to see an eye makeup tutorial for that look. Hope to catch your talk during Melb Fashion Week - can you give us more details? Maria, Vintage Suburbia x

Sweeeeet they look FIERCE! I'm definitely planning a pair or two (need to use up all those shoulderpads I didn't use in my tailoring class), but a bit unsure about how to attach them. You pinned, you say? Safety pins? Many? I'm concerned about potentially damaging nice jackets (as I have done with so many nice other things, randomly pinning embellishments all over them!)...maybe lightly tacking them on would be a good alternative?

My first thought? "Oh sh*t!" Closely followed by "Hello Alexis." And finally, once I recovered what passes for my wits; "Those are AWESOME!"

I would never, ever wear shoulder pads as I have broad shoulders, but I like the way these look, and you look absolutely smashing in that jacket.

Perfect, one of the best shots I have seen of you. I like the way how you create different styles, also with regard to make up and your hairdo. It is so exciting what one can design thanks to DIY projects.

Great idea :) Love how easy it looks. And your right, I'm sure its just a fad that will be gone in six months. In the meantime it looks cute :)

stunning! the first photo is breathtaking!!

DEFINITELY doing this. I recently bought what I can only call a ring master coat (long tails, cropped at the front) and think an addition of bejewelled shoulder pads would really make it.

Thanks for the fabulous idea xx

Love the jacket!! Can you please tell us how you have done your hair that way?! I have a wedding this friday and would love to wear somthing like this. i think my hair is a tiny bit shorter than yours but would LOVE to wear this! I have a beautiful purple silk vintage inspired dress from Portmans (so much better now that they have their new designers) and this would look FAB!
Thanks Lady Melbourne!
