Spirit of the Black Dress launch for L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival

This morning I was invited down to a wonderful spectacle of black, frocks and Flinders St Station. So quintessentially Melbourne, the launch of the Spirit of the Black Dress as part of the LMFF was just what the steps of a Melbourne icon needed as the sun broke through the looming clouds.

The event seems to have outgrown it's meagre beginnings last year and that was no more evident than in the photo-scrum that spilled onto traffic in Flinders St. I just adore this event, for me it is a high light of the pre-fashion week calendar because it is just so chic, yet so grass roots.

The models looked like they needed to eat something and had skipped school for the day, but they wouldn't have been the divine creatures they are had this not been the case. I expect to see a plethora of underage waifs next week, but I digress. They were ethereal and beautiful, as were the dresses in question.

The Fashion Photography exhibition runs from 12-6pm 12-21st March at Georges on Collins, 195 Little Collins Street, Melbourne, free entry. There may be a frock or two on display as well!

What care I for traffic when there are black dresses to photograph!
And if you want a true belly laugh, introducing.......
Lady Midget Melbourne!

Project Director Tullia Jack has outdone herself with year considering this is only the second year the competition has been running and I would urge anyone in town next week to hop on down to see some incredible Aussie design talent.

I love that last pic. Look at how tall the models are against your good self. I'd be dwarfed as well. Too sweet.

not one to be picky but... to say that the models would not have been as beautiful as they were had they not been underage and underfed is a bit much.

I love what you wore! The necklace is amazing, was it a Lady M creation or did you purchase it?

Lady M you're a darling! I love the photo of you with with the scarily tall models. But why do they all look so upset? Quick, someone take them across the road to mcdonalds and shout them a burger!

Pina Colada Kisses- nice blog name!

medine amory.- yup, I was tempted to throw one of the models over my shoulder and escape with a dress but you know, too many paps around :p
