Possums, I'm back!

What a lovely refreshing weekend I've had, as you can see, I've been accessorising most of the time....joking of course, not all the time, just most of it.
And I'm back to black, white and grey finally!
Again, as in a previous post with a red pair, I made my gloves. Due to the response I had on that post I suppose I owe an explanation to you all so your not left wondering how it is I D.I.Y all the time.
Step one: Buy any pair of soft fabric gloves.
Step two: Buy the best quality rhinestones you can find. These are Swarovski crystal.
Step three: Design layout, glue on.
I may have a background in accessory design but you know, I don't want you all to think that Lady Melbourne might actually have to work for a living!
If you would like to know any more or would like a pair for yourself, please email me. They get borrowed for fashion shoots all the time, stylists seem to like them. Funny though, I don't sell very many. I suppose rhinestones before lunch isn't every ones cup of tea.
I also must tell you that I found this divine creature of a coat waiting for me at my local Vinnie's store. For all of $5.50 considering it is tailored, fully lined with bound button holes I thought the universe had delivered me quite a lovely little Saturday afternoon gift.
I'm going to make a nice big sash to go with it.
Looking forward now to reading about what the rest of you have been up to while I've been away!

Tea time for Ladies: The outfit

I've had some lighting issues lately which has meant that I've lost some of the detail I normally like to showcase, but I think I may have just found the remedy today which you will all see the product of in future posts.

You know how when you shop sometimes and you find something that just has your name all over it, like it was put there, right on that rack so that you would pull it out and make it your own?
I believe this dress and I were made for each other, it is the epitome of what I look for when I shop- classic, authentic vintage in mint condition, and generally in black white or grey. This is a 1950's day dress that was made in Montreal and has label 'Designed by Sty- Val.'
If anyone knows the label and it's origins please email me.

I actually have to work today, sigh......his lordship thinks that I should get out and do something useful, I suppose the upside is more money to shop with.
At least I can make it entertaining for myself with lovely accessories, nothing makes me happier than a beautiful pair of heels. Carla from accounts can't stand it that I have better shoes than her so that's one triumph for the day.

Coat: The name of the shop escapes me, but it's on Bourke St, a little Japanese affair.

Skirt: DFO

Hangin' Tough

I heard New Kids on the Block are reforming, can anyone confirm?

So, to carry on from 'A Little Bit of Gucci,' here is one of the newest residents in my wardrobe, la Dolina dress.
I decided that everything lately has been rather pretty, and I love pretty, but something a little tougher was in order towards the end of the week.
I still think the dress is essentially quite feminine, and could be worked all manor of ways- gladiator sandals, sky high red patent heels, ballet flats and cardigan- I could go on.
But for today, here is the outfit.
Dress: Vintage Dolina
Shoes: Urban Original
Trench: EG Collection
Tights: Wicked
Jewellery: I made it!
Belt: Camden market

Did you miss me?

Well dear readers, it's been at least five days since I've graced these pages, I hope you are still out there and visiting!
To make up for the absence I thought I'd share this lovely outfit with you. For regular readers you'll know I recently stumbled upon a lovely vintage petticoat at a local Melbourne flea market.
Not being able to resist the frou frou nature of the skirt I bought it and took it home where it has been residing in my cupboard longing to be worn. I just wasn't sure how to wear it without looking a/ like a 6 year old, b/ like a 20 something tragic trying to look like a 6 year old, c/ Carrie Bradshaw. And I adore SATC don't fret, just given the hype surrounding the movie I have been a little reluctant to go out in public wearing it.
I digress, the most obvious solution was to wear it under something, but I felt it had to be something special so what better option than another item that has been a little lonely in my wardrobe since I wore it as a bridesmaid 6 months ago.
I think it's just a perfect match, don't you agree?
No my shoes aren't Miu Miu(sigh........) they are from Urban Original in the US, you can find them here or on eBay.

Here is the complete outfit of what I am wearing tonight the premier screening of a certain film that everyone is going crazy over at the moment. I changed my shoes from the original post, I think these are a better option, plus they are new so of course, I have to wear them.

A little bit of Gucci perhaps....

More eBay joy in the form of these unbelievable shoes that arrived yesterday. I don't really 'do' gladiator or tough as you would all realise by now, but these just spoke to me and I decided worn in the right way, worn in my own little way I could make them work.
The dress is kind of funny, I accidentally ended up thrift shopping with my girlfriends the other day, meaning we basically did what we always do, and as I am trying my best to get away from black and white I tried this on as a joke.
It's by and Australian label called 'Dolina' that was really big in the 1970's and 1980's in Australia and apart from it's name which is just darling, they only make dresses which I love even more. Just dresses.
I digress, I wondered as I stood there inspecting my reflection whether it could be worked in a vintage Gucci kind of way, given the print and all. Your opinion?
I can see it being worked quite a few ways now that I own it, I suppose as it was only $8 I can always give it back to charity and my fashion chain will be complete.
More outfit options on the weekend.

In other breaking Lady Melbourne news:
1. I bought a new pair of True Religion jeans for $6 at St Vincent de Paul. The adorable old lady behind the counter had no idea what she was selling me, I almost felt like I was robbing her.

2. There will be a Lady Melbourne etsy store coming soon.

3. Betty from 'Le Blog de Betty' has invited me to join Mode Pass, link will be up on the website this weekend for those of you already on there.

4. Thank you ever so much for your emails and comments lately, I have read them all and am endeavouring to get back to you as soon as possible. If you have not yet had a reply please be patient, I will get to you!

eBay: Joy- finally!

A couple of weeks back I posted about an eBay spree I had been on. Here is one of the results and I'm thrilled. It's on my consideration list to wear to the opening night of a certain film of a certain inflated status world wide that shall remain nameless. You know what I'm talking about.

Verging of nanna chic I hear you say?
You should see what else I got!

eBay: No Joy

You may remember this post from a few weeks back. I have been on a quest to find a new trench coat for some time now, and I really thought I had found it when I discovered this beauty on eBay.
It arrived promptly in brand new, mint condition, and although there is nothing wrong with the trench, it didn't sing to me when I tore it out of the packaging on my way home from the post office.
It's a summer trench, meaning, it's very light weight and thin.
Which renders it pretty much useless in a Melbourne winter.
I am so dissapointed because it is lovely, and I love the military style but it's just not what a girl wants.
Anyhow, I am looking for a new home for it, if you are interested please contact me. If I can't find a home for it then it will end up back where I get most of my wardrobe from- the charity shop.
I do have the dress and tux shirt, and am pleased to report that they are fabulous and will be posting outfits over the weekend.
