Out of my way: Shoulder pads coming through

I found this little jacket at Value City Savers in Preston, but before I remove the biggest shoulder pads I have ever seen in my life, I thought I would play dress ups first.

I haven't really presented a retro look for a while, not because I don't dress like this but mainly because I thought for a while I might be pigeon-holed if I only ever dressed like this. Plus someone told me it made me look old. Hilarious!

I don't like to take myself too seriously anyhow, so this is Lady Melbourne come 1940's come Dolly Parton for your Wednesday afternoon viewing pleasure.
If you think the shoulders should stay(sooooo on trend) then let me know, I'm inclined to take them out.
Edit: The darling Vintage Verve just suggested on twitter that it's more Alexis Carrington than Parton. Made my day!!
Vintage jacket: Value City Savers
Vintage leather skirt: Value City Savers (photos of tags coming for all you vintage purists out there)

I think you carry the shoulder pads off well! Maybe you could replace them with smaller ones? Just a thought :)

I'd leave them for a while anyway - you can always remove them late :) looking very old school Bold and the Beautiful or Dynasty in that pic. If I saw you out and about I would half expect you to stalk across the room and throw a drink in someone's face before staring into the distance with a vacant expression lol

Amazingggggg! I'm loving big shoulders ATM, hopefully my Balmain-esque blazer arrived soon! And the make up is gorgeous too!

They're certainly a statement! I've got a few things in my wardrobe with big pads I'm not sure about too. But I love the pagoda shoulders of the last year or so :)

It seems to me in the latest shoulders it's the fabric that's been manipulated into folds to stand up, or with tulle underneath to make the shoulders stand up. So maybe take the pads out and use the fabric that's there, either pleated or puffed up, to make the volume.

I think Bucca hit the nail on the head! lol

I'd leave the shoulder pads for a little while - wear it out at least once. Then modify away. It'd make a great statement piece at LMFF...

Removing those shoulder pads would be criminal!

Love the outfit, very retro and glamour indeed and you can pull it off. These "ginormous" shoulder pads should go, or replace them with smaller ones.

Oh stunning. I love it when you do that hairstyle a la Lady Melbourne 2007/2008(?) posts by the couch.

Yes I concur with Lost In Laneways and Bucca- try it for a bit before altering!

I read your blog through google reader but aren't much of a commenter so don't often click over, but just wanted to say that I love your hair and make up in this shot! Amazing!

Alexis not-so-much. Krystle, yes.

I don't like shoulder pads. It's a personal thing lol.

I love the cuffs though!

I think you will regret taking them out. The top wll fall differently, it's made for those weighty chunks - and it looks great on you. I have a dress I took shoulder pads out of, wore once and put them straight back in. I also have a jacket with shoulder pads to rival that. Op shop number and man, if you got tired, you could just lean your head to the left or right and have a snooze. Comfy and stylish.

Apart from the amazing retro look - the color of your lipstick is a beautiful shade of red!

I love it. I have a few 'dress up' things that I haven't removed the shoulder pads from and I think the shapes are so bold. Good confidence boost!

The jacket is interesting but what I REALLY love is your hair! Amazing!

You carry it well! I also suggest not removing shoulder pads entirely but just downsizing...sometimes it's really hard to get the shoulder looking right without something there.

OOO! Haha, I love it!! So, you're a bit too late for the "Dallas" audition, but who cares when you look this cool!
Jokes aside, your hair looks beautiful, skirt is a good find and yes, I would've removed those shoulder pads as well...
