Happy Friday!

Hi spies!

Welcome to Happy Friday, I am with you sans drink in hand because I celebrated H.F by doing brunch today with Lulki.

I suppose you could say I have a touch of Holy Golightly about me, in that if you gave me a choice, I would prefer to socialise in the evening rather than meet in the morning. It's a little new to me. Ahem.

I bought this scarf at a country op-shop yesterday for 50c, and then I made my rose quartz necklace to match and make it 'pop.' I don't like pink much, but I think these colours work in so other ways.

I'm off for cocktails now, you didn't think that brunch was all there would be on Happy Friday did you?! Ciao!

To Paddington!

I just adored Paddington Bear when I was a little girl, so when I found this coat at Camden Market I knew it just had to be mine.

The sleeves are a little bit short (I suspect it might have been made for a child!) but I don't mind that so much because I can wear pretty cuffs underneath.

It's rather foggy here today so I think a little bit of bright red will do just fine.

Ok, ok.....

Sorry my posts haven't been daily, I know that for some of you it's a daily fix but darlings it's just been one of those weeks!
Now how is this for colour? Much better I think than my poor effort with a grey and pink striped skirt, no matter how darling it was.

A little housekeeping is in order I believe to begin with. Here is the answers to some of your questions I've had of late:

What products do you use on your hair to keep it in such good condition?
I use Clairol Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner from the original collection. I really think the key to the healthy condition though is the fact that I don't colour my hair and haven't for the last 5 years. That's right, it's 100% natural.

What colour is currently on your toenails?
'Cutie Pink' my Revlon.

Mmmmm, a little leopard to keep me warm!

Despite the sunlight it's getting colder here and what better way to stay warm than wrapped up in a leopard print jacket. You can see details of the jacket in this post.

Black and shiny

I think these tights are lovely, 120 denier! And from the supermarket would you believe, a brand called 'Wicked.' I think it's a diffusion label from one of the big hose companies but someone out there will have to correct me. Anyhow, my beautiful Wolford ones that I've had for 4 years now are not looking as opaque as they used to so in a moment of desperation I bought these.

I'm not really sure about this one....

This is actually a skirt but I'm wearing it as a dress. Its by an iconic Aussie budget label called Katies, you could find one in every suburban shopping centre in the 80's. I think it has folded now but please correct me if I am wrong. Its great as a pencil skirt but I'm wondering if its too 'busy' so I've tried it as a dress.
Still getting used to colour so there has to be some monochrome in there or I can't leave the house.
Coat is from La Femme Boutique, skirt worn as dress Katies from Savers, shoes Zola, belt Camden markets, necklace vintage Chanel, bag vintage Hermes from my mum.

I heart Shopping

Oh goodness, I've been shopping. Rather I've picked up a few layby's and it just makes my heart sing having a beautiful new pair of shoes or bag.

The red and cream shoes are Filippo Raphael that I picked up at Edward Meller in Collins St. You can buy them online which is great news for overseas readers. I absolutely adore them, they're my Dorothy shoes(Wizard of Oz, get it?)
The black patent Mary Janes are a little discovery- I'm throwing a 1920's party and have been looking for an inexpensive pair of black, patent MJ's to compliment my outfit.

I found these in Payless Shoes which I never, ever go into but for the sake of a costume checked out. Extremely pleasantly surprised I must say, I wasn't expecting these.

The bag is an Australian label called Amorni and this is the Alma bag in beautiful Italian leather.

I bought it at an unlikely little, well sort of a gift shop really called Boxt. This is how they describe themselves:

'It is an Aladdin's Cave of delightful gifts for friends and family, or just to treat yourself.'

A little cheesy but they truly have beautiful gifts and home wares.

I love it, it just goes with everything in my wardrobe. Like the cape and fur expect to see much, much more of it to come.

A little birthday affair...

I think this the perfect outfit for one's birthday, strangely re-creating a Madeline feel but that's probably got to do with not wanting to act ones age.

I digress, I wore this to work, on my birthday and whilst doing the usual surfing the net and reading the many blogs I do each day I came across this from Shoes Mend Hearts which was quite timely because her sentiments on work were hilariously true:

I think I had the perfect shoe, for the occasion, and for work of course.

It's alot cooler, even compared to just a few weeks ago. I've been dying to wear these boots, I bought them back in January in store for winter and didn't think I'd be able to wear them until at least April. Anyhow, they had their first outing today.
I was shopping in Savers on Sydney Rd in Brunswick looking for an outfit to wear to a 1920s party and came across the fur jacket. Couldn't got past it for $29. Expect to see much more of both the boots and the fur in winter to come!

An Easter Affair....The Cape

So I've been playing around with the many ways one can wear a cape and let me tell you, there are many. The weather turned cool today so I got to wear it out, still deciding whether I want to keep it ladylike with a dress or more casual with jeans. What do you think?
Either way I absolutely love it and am thrilled that I have one in my wardrobe now.

Tights are from Target, Shoes are Zola and YSL, jeans are Valley Girl.

I have also had a few questions on where I find all these great little bargains. I call it 'digging for gold,' or basically looking in every shop you pass by and going through every rack in the hope or event that you may find such things as, well, a cape.
This divine little number was found in a shop called 'Shivers Boutique' in a little German settled town called Harndorf in Adelaide. I was walking into the shop as my friend was walking out and I asked her if there was anything worthwhile inside. She quipped- 'The whole thing gives me shivers, give it a miss!'
In must be in my nature you see but I couldn't.
Walking past the vinyl shoes, badly made shell jewellery and Nanna style shirts I went to the back of the shop, where, in the very corner on the bottom rack under a whole lot of aqua blue crocheted sequin numbers, was my cape.
The shop was closing down(which means you always have to enter, it just screams bargains) and after trying it on and deciding I wasn't leaving without it, I asked the shop assistant the price. 50% of the sale price which totalled $25.

So in a nutshell, even if the shop looks tragic don't be put off, digging for gold can often times produce a nugget.
