Well if you insist...

I donated blood for the first time today and the nurses told me I had to sit around and have a cup of tea and a biscuit afterwards. If I felt a little funny when I arrived home, I should rest and have plenty more water and tea....'and biscuits?' I asked.
No, technically I didn't need to go home and eat my cupboard dry, but you know, just to be sure I had a couple extra biscuits anyway.

Do you guys like Frankie? I like it most of the time, it pretty much has something I'm interested in, in each issue. A male friend pointed out to me however, that he thinks even though it has the 'quirky' aspect, it's just another women's mag because all they seem to cover is topics like craft, vintage shopping, baking and illustration to name a few. Ergo, it doesn't appeal to the average male out there. His opinion, not mine. Interesting though!
I haven't been able to wear this coat for 6 months since I was in Paris last year(sigh....not in Paris, in front of computer right now) but hoorah, the weather has finally turned and I can turn out all my lovely winter coats.
I have my eye on a little red number on Etsy at the moment, because you know, one can never have too many red coats now, can one?

My favourite things....

Here are a few of my favourite things around the place, I'll be spending more and more time indoors now that the cold weather is upon us!
1. Hand knitted jumpers
2. Dr.Jones(best friend, archaeologist, general pin-up) made this for me for my birthday. I LOVE it.

3. Flowers.

4. My prints. This one came from London, Lord Melbourne(brother) sent it to me, also for my birthday.

5. Old furniture

6. My $2 cuckoo clock

7. Little pieces of thoughtful jewellery.
And while I'm at all things thoughtful, World Vision contacted me about helping them to promote a collaborative effort between them, In Style Magazine and Romance Was Born.
Here's the spin:

Pearls mean tears....

I'm reading 'The Inimitable Jeeves' an old Penguin classic by P.G.Wodehouse at the moment and Pearls means Tears is the title of chapter 4. I liked it.

Over the top.....

I didn't wear these boots that much last winter, so in a way I feel as though they are still 'new.'

It's 14c here today so that's a fairly good excuse to whip them out from the back of the closet and wear them out to brunch.

Savour this..........

I have neglected to mention on the blog that I gave up op-shopping for about 2 weeks. Just to see if I could really, because Mother Melbourne firmly believed that I was addicted and had Granny Dresses Anonymous on speed dial.
Anyhow, today was my first trip out with a fist full of cash and a will to spend it. Actually that just sounded good, I gave myself a $20 limit, again just to see if I could manage it.
Anyhow, I picked up this dress, a couple of belts and the record for $25, all from Savers. Biggest find was the Moschino belt, it's been on my 'Items to find in an op-shop before I die' list for a while now. It was $7.

I don't have any pictures for you today, so I thought I'd put these up. I haven't watched them myself for a while, makes me think I really should get onto another series!

Art Melbourne

His Lordship and I visited the Art Melbourne 2009 fair at the Royal Exhibition Building today, courtesy of 'Seven Contemporary Artists,' a Melbourne based collective of women artists.
As with all massive events of this nature there is plenty of crap to sift through, but there was plenty that left an impression as well.

Mr. Postman bring me a dream.....

I got a couple of packages in the mail today which always makes one happy.
Solestruck sent me these cute booties all the way from the States, but you can shop online here in Oz.
I think they'll look better skinny jeans, but as the weather is getting cooler they have arrived just in time. If you like this style you can buy them here, otherwise just check out the website.
Thank you Solestruck, they are super cute!

This little lizard creation was sent by my brother Lord Melbourne who lives in London. Apparently the man who made it is 72 and just makes them on order basis these days, but back in his hey day stocked to Harrods. He hand makes all his bags. Special.

Happy Friday

Well, this time last week I was in bed so what a relief that is over with and I can finally settle down into some Friday delights and a cocktail or 4.

I bought this cashmere cardigan in Florence a couple of years ago but don't get to wear it all that often because it's so warm and the climate here rarely calls for it. Still, it's so beautiful that I like to pull it out now and again.
This super cute skirt is from Savers, it was a size 16 but I ran it in. I didn't intend for it when I got dressed, but I just noticed that my manicure matches my shoe colour, and the bows on my shoes match my belt. Ha!

Hope your Friday is filled with much excitement!

Fab Fab

Thank you for all your well-wishes, I am feeling much better now.
I posted about these jeans a little while back, I bought them because they reminded me of my childhood and what Mother Melbourne might have worn when I was little Lady Melbourne.

The camera caught me putting on my Chanel pendant but I thought the picture was cute- I am a huge Coco Chanel fan but I definitely don't subscribe to her thought that one should take one item off before leaving the house. I like looking like a Christmas tree.

It's an ironic comment in my opinion, because if you've seen pictures of Coco Chanel she has accessories hanging off her wrists, earrings, neck with brooches and hats thrown in to boot. I'm not sure exactly what she meant when she suggested you take one thing off!

She wears flowers in her hair..........

I've been really sick kids, I should have put something up to tell you but I couldn't get out of bed and let the maids have the weekend off.
I am back however and thought you all deserved a bit of a photo feast so here is my new, red dress complete with flowers in my hair.
I was inspired by Hayleys pom poms, but I don't own pom poms so flowers had to suffice. I might make myself some however, I think they're pretty cool.

LADY MELBOURNE'S RULES OF CIVILITY

It's been a while since I've done one of these posts, and not because your questions don't flow through my in box, but I just don't seem to get around to posting them. Remiss of me I'm sure because I know you are all bursting with plenty of wisdom so I'm throwing this one over to you dear readers!

Dear Lady Melbourne,
I've been reading your blog for a year or so now and it's one of my favourites - especially being a Melbourne girl myself! And I now have a favour to ask you. I'm getting married in July and my mother is having trouble finding a mother of the bride outfit. We are after something simple but stylish, and a little more up-to-date than the typical matching skirt and jacket ensemble. Ideally we would like to find a nice dress, for around $300, but with hemlines very short this season it is hard to find anything that sits below the knee! I was wondering if you could recommend any local places to look? So far we have tried all the usual chain stores with little success, so any advice would be appreciated!
Many thanks,
K

Happy Friday

Despite the fact that it is Friday, my favourite day of the week I don't have a cocktail in hand today as I have an extremely sore throat and am not well.
These earrings are new however and if they can't make you feel better I'm not sure what would!
