Happy Friday Give-Away: Tickets to the Melbourne International Jazz Festival

Yep that's correct, I have a double pass to 'Baby it's Cold Outside' on the opening night of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival.

Inspired by the popular ABC release Baby It's Cold Outside, the opening night of the 2010 Melbourne International Jazz Festival will celebrate the great jazz torch songs penned by George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hart and made famous by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra.
For one night only, these timeless classics will be reinterpreted by an all-star cast of singers including Lior, Whitley, Clare Bowditch, Megan Washington and many more.
You don't have to be from Melbourne necessarily to enter the comp, you just have to be in Melbourne on May 1st so you can see the show.
Leave a comment on this post to be in the running, entries close next Wednesday 28th April, winners announced Thursday 29th April.

Happy Friday Give Away Time!

The good people over at Jumi Footwear have given me a pair of their gorgeous ballet flats to give away this week. The basic premise is that they look like ballet flats but perform like sneakers which is perfect for me considering I live in ballet flats.
I don't think I've ever given away an actual pair of shoes before- so exciting!
No only that they are of your choice, so head to the website and pick a pair to enter. That's it!
Leave a comment on this post with which pair you would like to win to be eligible, entries close next Midnight Thursday 15th April. Winners announced on the blog Friday 16th.

EDIT 13.4.10: I am so sorry that I originally had the date set to end in March. It goes without saying that it ends in April, sorry if it confused any of you. Luckily there is still time to enter!

Today's video is a little historical overview of head scarves and how I like to wear them. I had a request from @cannedcontent on twitter if I could do a little video on the topic so here it is.

However, here it is and as additional content I have included links below in case any of you wish you discover further what I am talking about in today's video.

I've had many requests lately to see how I create my hair and make-up looks on the blog. Today's video is all about two of the key Lady Melbourne looks and how you can achieve them. It is simpler than you might think!

The amazing necklace I'm wearing in the video is from My Sweet Muse and you can check out all of Eva's designs and more at her etsy shop.

Happy Friday!

Hi guys, it's been quite a week, what with losing one of my digital cameras, in particular the one that I've been using for my video blogs. It was a tough pill to swallow realising that it was gone, but not to be deterred I've borrowed a camera this week in order to bring you my Friday video.

As requested by one of you, today I'm talking about how to appear confident in your photos, and little tricks you can use to get the best out of your photography.

Hope you enjoy!

Happy Friday! More give-aways!

Hey y'all, just to carry on from last weeks give away, I have the lurvely limited edition Lavazza 2010 calendar shot by Miles Aldridge for you. And not one but five of them to give away. I love it when I get multiples, I don't feel as though so many of you miss out in this case!

The eighteenth calendar speaks the universal languages of Music and Photography. British photographer Miles Aldridge has been given the task of visually interpreting six of the ultimate Italian classics: Va' Pensiero, Guarda Che Luna, 'O Sole Mio, Con Te PartirĂ², Baciami Piccina and Nessun Dorma.

My personal favourite is Con Te Partiro:

As with all the give aways, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post to be in with a chance!

Happy Friday! Welcome to Lady Melbourne's new Friday videos

As I mentioned yesterday, one of my friends and fellow bloggers suggested that I do a video blog once a week because she'd love to see more of Lady Melbourne TV.
So rather than it being as styled as last time(read: my editor moved to London and I'm rubbish at Final Cut) it will be more conversational between you, and me.

This is the kick off video, please feel free to write in each week!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday out there folks, first Friday in Feb!
I like to dress for occasions, meaning I like to look appropriate for the venue/event/party I am attending. Hence my post asking your opinions on what I should wear to the tennis.
Anyhow I'm going to the pub tonight and possibly to see a band(relying on other peoples plans is always GREAT) and I haven't worn this dress as yet but thought c'est parfait.
I gave it a test run last night at ladies night and got the thumbs up from the gals- I was a little worried I might look like an ice skater from 1984 who got lost in a biker shop but they put my fears to rest.
Dress: Bought in Hong Kong on my travels and never worn
Boots: Senso Diffusion
Jacket: Sirrico
p.s- thank you my dear readers for the French lesson!

Happy Friday!
You know that Dr.Jones has started to call me 'Lady Rider' because I'm Lady Melbourne and I ride around on my bike most days. She thinks its funny, I actually don't mind it, kinda cute I guess.
I gave myself the day off today and cycled to my local Savers where I picked up these gorgeous crystal ornaments. I believe it's a set with a salt dish, pepper dish, butter dish and miniature vase. I can't walk past things like this, I have somewhat of an obsession with making my surroundings as beautiful as possible. I'll even spend my last $5 on something incidental that will make me happy to look at, knowing I won't be paid for days.
Silly or sensible? I wonder what you would all spend your last $5 on hhhmmm?!

Happy Friday....just!

Happy Friday y'all, I've only just made it with about 30 minutes to spare but I've barely been near the computer in the last two days.

Last night was the Nuff Nang Christmas party and it was lovely to catch up with Alicia and Hayley amongst many other Melbourne bloggers. We're lucky to have a really cool scene here in Melbourne where anyone can come to these parties, not just fashion bloggers but anyone that blogs.

I'm going to be in Adelaide really soon, not for long, but long enough to discover your shopping gems. I've had a few comments about where to dig around so if there is anywhere else you think I need to visit let me know. When ever I go there I manage to come home with shopping delights so I'm looking forward to this visit.
Anyhow, back to today's post(!), you know I'm mad on accessories and this is His Lordships Christmas present to me sitting on my lap. We're in love, can you tell?
I bought the necklaces at Valley Girl I think, ridiculously cheap and now I feel guilty as hell for not ploughing my money into a local designer. After running my own label for 7 years I know how hard it is to compete with the likes of Diva so I always get the guilt's when I find something cheap and cheerful in store.
Do any of you boycott places like that? I'd love to know if you can resist!
Jacket: Vintage, was Mother Melbourne's when she was my age. Ta mum!
Necklaces: Valley Girl
Bag: Sirrico
Heels: Urban Original, US
Watch: Second hand

Happy Friday!

When Stephanie J the editor of N.E.E.T magazine emailed me earlier this year and asked if I'd like to contribute to the mag I jumped at the chance. It's one of my favourite online magazine's and I used to advertise with them long before I started the blog and had my accessories line.

Anyhow, below is my contribution of photos and words for this months issue so check it out, there are some faaaaabulous shopping gems I uncovered for the issue.

Leigh Viner is an artist/illustrator who also contributed to the issue, I bought this print from her Etsy shop. Can't wait to get it and put it up!
I want this entire outfit, check it out on page 50.

Happy Friday: Dreaming of Dior Give-Away!

So, here it is folks, the Happy Friday Dreaming of Dior by Charlotte Smith book give away! I've hinted about it on the blog and on twitter but it was pretty obvious it was the book don't you think?!

I was racking my brains about what to wear in the post and it dawned on my while I was hunting around the studio that I had my own mini Dreaming of Dior moment. Earlier in the year I inherited the two vintage dresses I'm wearing in the post, and managed to salvage a picture of my Aunt Joan wearing the pink number at a wedding in the 1970's.

In her younger years, Joan was a ball room dancer and had many of her clothes hand made especially for competitions and events. Although this wasn't one of them, the dresses are so special to me and I absolutely treasure them.

Aunt Joan wearing the dress I inherited this year at a wedding in the 1970s.

All you have to do is leave a comment on this post to be in the running! International readers welcome, competition ends Thursday 26th November 5pm AEST.

Happy Friday!

Hello, happy Friday everyone, the end of another week and a step closer to Christmas.

I twittered earlier today that I had an hour or so to kill in Richmond and ended up on Bridge Rd of all places. Absolutely nothing inspired me until I was about to give up all hope and I walked past the window of Leoni and saw it calling out to me. On sale as well! I love Sonia Rykiel, it reminded me of one of her sweaters.

The inspiration for today's photos is from this Dior ad which I've been looking at all week. I think I want those sunnies I've decided. To die for, no?

Happiest Friday wishes to you, I'm off for cocktails now.
